SAE Institute
Project:
The Atlanta location of an international school teaching audio engineering for the recording and broadcast industries.
Challenges:
The project is located in a loft space with a historic building in downtown Atlanta. All recording studios, classrooms, and control rooms had to be acoustically isolated from each other as well as from outside noise and the tenant below.
Solutions:
Partitions are constructed as double-insulated walls to prevent sound migration between recording spaces. Additionally, a new concrete sub-floor was poured allowing for acoustical insulation between recording studios. Mechanical systems are designed to deliver airflow at low volume with lined ductwork and electrical service is flitered and conditioned tp protect delicate equipment. Architecturally, the space is light and bright with high ceilings allowing the large windows to flood the interior with light. The elevator lobby features a complete glass enclosure that allows for sweeping views upon arrival, including a dramatic curved soffit, as soon as you step off the elevator.
